About ten years ago while I was living in Venice Beach, California, I would take walks along the beach by the breakwater after grueling hours at the office. My favorite time of year at Venice Beach is during the fall and winter when the tourists are gone, and the beach is relatively empty. The evening I took this photograph I happened to look up and notice that as the sun was setting a sailboat was about to pass in front of the sun. There was a lone surfer in the water, waves were crashing against the breakwater, seagulls were on the shore undisturbed, and I hoped if I stood there long enough I could capture all five elements (sunset, surfer, waves, boat, seagulls) in the same shot. Low and behold it worked! To see this photograph framed click on this link to my gallery: markbarclay.photography.
